Visit Mom in Texas at Least Once a Year

Started 7/7/16-

As I look at my list of a bazillion options for this 50B450, I realize that I will never get any of them done if I don't plan for it.  I really don't remember the last time I went home to Mom's house and she is always asking or hinting or guilt tripping me into coming.  I've always had other things to do or would simply rather her come to me, but I think it is important to her that I come. It shows her how much I love and care for her.  So I am looking at my calendar and am going to come up with some options for year one trip home.  I hope to be working from home on Fridays or Mondays.  Maybe I could just take a quick jaunt home for the weekend.  Do a girls thing.  One thing I know is that I will need to wait for Jeremy to have a job.  Don't need to spend any more money at the moment.  I thought about going when she has her cataract surgery, but I'm not sure she'd like that since it is a minor surgery and she already has Greeta to help her out a bit.  Maybe labor day weekend.  No, Jeremy wouldn't like that.  I'll look at a weekend in October and base it on what the cheapest fares are.  That sounds good to me.  I will revisit this when Jeremy has a job.

9/23/16 OK, I've taken an important step. I asked off for three days right before Christmas break so I have plenty of time to travel. When Chuck and Sheila were here this last weekend, they mentioned us coming back to Arkansas for Christmas break. So I told them about my idea to go to my mom's for Christmas and then swing through there and then on back to Colorado. That will be a lot of driving, but maybe we can figure out some fun things to do along the way. I think being in Texas Dec 21-26 and Arkansas Dec 26-30 sounds pretty good. That is an even split and seems like not too much driving. We can split the long drives up if we want or just drive straight on through.

11/28/16 I'm not actually going home for Christmas, so I won't be able to sing the song. I will have to sing..."I'll be in a hotel in Lubbock, you can cry for me." That was to the tune of I'll Be Home for Christmas in case you needed a leg up there. My brother has gotten into making tiny houses and me, my mom and David will not fit along with Bryan, Dawn and Luke.  Damn downsizing! It's all good. It will be good to see everyone and spend time with them. It doesn't matter to me where we are. I just want to make sure I actually get credit for this one though. I will be in Texas and i will be visiting my mom, so I think it totally counts.

1/21/17 I think my original intention was to visit Mom at home, but we ended up staying in a hotel in Lubbock and visiting with her and my brother and his family. We celebrated Christmas in the hotel lobby where they had a big tree. Mom kept running around after David and Luke picking up their wrapping paper cast-offs and stressing over the fact that they were being noisy even though there was nobody near by and the hotel was occupied as the hotel in The Shining. Made me laugh. Bryan gave dad a gift card and wrapped in a note that said he had made a donation to the Democratic National Party in Dad's name. That made me laugh to. Dad and Mom for that matter, both voted for Trump (shaking my head as I type). I got to see Bryan and Dawn's tiny house and despite David saying he didn't like kids, he played with Luke and seemed to have quite a good time. Only tragedy was the swimming pool in the hotel was basically toxic and I had to throw David in a shower in a random room with the door open to wash his eyes out for at least 10 minutes before they stopped stinging. I never got around to writing that complaint. Should still be done. Not too late.

8/24/17 I have visited mom twice in the last 3 months. Now don't think I am an amazing daughter. Actually she is an amazing mother. For the second time in two years, she has taken care of my two dogs, Chachi and Mena, for 2-3 months. She has foregone travel and had some sleepless nights because of their whining, but she did it anyway because she loves me. So both of my trips were short. One to drop the dogs off and the other to pick them up. I was only able to stay a day each time, but when I picked them up David was with me and they got to go to a movie together. A big thanks to my mom for always taking care of me and my family.

1/8/2020 Went home to go to mom’s wedding to James. Great visit and a beautiful event.
